Wedding ring buying guide

Choosing your wedding rings can feel quite daunting when presented with so much choice, but here at H.J.Johnson we can help to make the experience of choosing your wedding rings a relaxed and enjoyable one. Come and see us in store where we can help guide you to finding your perfect ring.

Here are our 5 top tips for buying a wedding ring:

1). Decide your budget – we have wedding rings to suit every budget.

2). Choose your precious metal – if your wedding ring is being worn alongside an engagement ring we would recommend matching the metals. This is for practical reasons – if one ring is 18ct and one is 9ct, the 18ct ring will wear down as it is softer than the 9ct ring. The choice of precious metal will also influence your budget too, so that will be something to consider when looking in to which metal you would like.

3). Choose your style and profile – plain, patterned, shaped or diamond-set? There are many styles to choose from, and this is where you can bring individuality and taste into your choice of wedding ring. Wedding rings are available in different profiles such as D-shaped (more traditional) and court (modern). Court is a popular choice as it is rounded on both the inside and outside which feels very comfortable to wear.

4). Choose your width – will a wider or thinner band work better for you? Consider the length and width of your fingers, whether you use your hands a lot. If so, a narrow ring in a durable metal will be a good option as it will be unobtrusive. For maximum comfort choose a flatter band with rounded edges. If you are matching the ring with your engagement ring think about which width will suit it best.

5.) Find out your ring size – we can measure you in store or find out the size of your engagement ring.

We would recommend buying your wedding rings at least 6 weeks before the wedding – if not before – as a lot of rings will take up to 6 weeks to be made.

See our wedding and engagement ring section to choose and design your very own bespoke wedding ring ready to order.
